Simple Pleasures Of Life Are Countless

As Simple As A Smile

simpleMost pleasures of life are simple. The smile of a newborn baby, the first snow of  winter and a cup of hot chocolate before bed.

Our society is evolving towards minimalism and simplicity in all matters. Our interiors are transforming from heavy, embellished and cluttered designs to favour clean lines and unobstructed spaces. Gadgets are becoming smaller, thinner and lighter; everything has become one-touch, one-click, one motion controlled.

The simplicity of the country life has attracted many a millionaire. Cities seem to be an ever-growing, over-crowded stretch of hell. The music of this hell is the tune of commercialism; and every dancer is drunk. To me, the vilest existence is the one with ever-buzzing telephones, constantly populated spaces and people who never sleep.

Come To My Home

When I meet someone who is tired of life and living, I take them home to my simple cottage. I feed them on natural, home-grown food – simple, hearty and good and to round it off, I let them go free: away from the network, off the grid. Simple nature: the river bed, the sea-shore. Ah, the young pine forest, the wheat fields, the open moor!

What does simple mean to you?

I had a friend who took great pride in her simple lifestyle. Curious, I went. Simplicity, to her, meant pre-cooked, pre-packaged, and ready to eat food, plus a dishwasher, an automatic washing machine, a touch-controlled lock and light system. ‘‘Just scan your finger, its super simple!’’ she encouraged, when I could not figure out from where the main door opens. There was not a key hole, you see. I shivered and shuddered; I packed my bags and took out my old, rusted key and was glad to be home.

  1. I very much agree that most of the pleasures of life come from simple things around us. To me simplicity is always about staying positive & love every one around you no matter what they give you back!

  2. Being a simple person was felt like you have a clean soul or something like you’re contended.

Contentment comes when one is at peace with wherever they are and whether that is classified as simple or not. Thanks for that Nicole. 🙂

The older I get, the more I appreciate true simplicity. A sunrise, a sunset, a cup of coffee on the balcony…things people take for granted all of the time, myself usually included. We’re very lucky we have so many amazing choices to make though, for what our own version of simplicity might be. 🙂

That is the key, eh Rosey? To create our own versions of simplicity. Thanks for that. 🙂

  4. Simplicity is something people should strive to achieve in their lives instead of perfection

Perfection is a myth – at least that is my feeling Momina. 🙂

  5. Simplicity is enjoying the everyday moments of family life x

That is at the essence, eh Jenni? Thanks for the visit and leaving a comment. 🙂

  6. Simplicity is bliss. Lives get so wrapped up in the modern wants of society that sometimes we forget about the simple things that are important to live. Fulfilling and happy life.

      Agreed Crystal, agreed. 🙂

  7. I love the idea of living a simple life, away from technology and everything that comes with it. It’s so much more relaxed and calm. There’s no pressure at all!

I am with you Carol, except that I would have to take my phone! LOL

Simplicity for me is not living excessively, it means that you’re content with what you have. But I also consider living away from the city, a more simple life! I love the idea of being away from the busy streets and the noise.

That is bliss – being away from the busy streets! I so feel you on that Elizabeth! 🙂

  9. Seeing the picture of the table makes me think country, simple living. Simplicity to me is living with the basics. We are trying to get back to more of that.

    1. Ms Claudette

Yes, I am with you on that – trying to get back to more of a simple life. 🙂

  10. I live out in the country and at first, I didn’t like it, but over the years I’ve come to love country living. I’m not far from the city in case I need a hustle and bustle fix.

    1. Ms Claudette

Yes, country life is not for everyone or at least for an extended period. But, as you said, once you get into it, you might never want to live anywhere else. Thanks for sharing that Alli! 🙂

  11. Simplicity is beautiful, uncluttered and straight from the heart. Somewhere in the modern clutter and the never ending rat race, we are losing the charm and elegance of old world simplicity.

    1. exactly. That was precisely my point “Back to Basics”
