The Wonderful Sound
“Have you ever heard the wonderful silence just before the dawn? Or the quiet and calm just as a storm ends? Or perhaps you know the silence when you haven’t the answer to a question you’ve been asked, or the hush of a country road at night, or the expectant pause of a room full of people when someone is just about to speak, or, most beautiful of all, the moment after the door closes and you’re alone in the whole house? Each one is different, you know, and all very beautiful if you listen carefully.” Norton Juster
How often do you turn everything off in your home and simply bask in the quiet? The refrigerator might be humming or the air conditioning unit depending on its age but you wander in between its vibration and savour the quiet.
Quiet Is Peace
Some think a hermit’s life might suit me and honestly, there are days when I think so too. Solitude is a great friend of mine and we spend hours upon hours together. It has been suggested to me that my inability, thus far, to enter and keep another long-term relationship is due to this love of being alone.
“Quiet is peace. Tranquility. Quiet is turning down the volume knob on life. Silence is pushing the off button. Shutting it down. All of it…” Khaled Hosseini
Do you enjoy being or sipping on the quiet moments of your life? A woman once said to me that she hates going home to an empty house. She actually waited until she knew her partner was home before leaving work to make sure she does not have to enter alone. Many of us, maybe you as well, are exactly the opposite.
