Insignificant Things You Should Be Grateful For

They Are Countless

Those who have Liked my Facebook page would have read in one of my several daily posts that I no longer name myself as a Christian. That, however, does not disallow being grateful for some of the most healing, soul-fulfilling hymns and songs. Of particular value to me has been gospel.

Hezekiah Walker, a well-known gospel singer and church leader, several songs that have accompanied me across some turbulent crossings. On the other side of those tides, this song is was always on my lips:

I am
Grateful for the things
That you have done
Yes, I’m grateful for the vic-tories we’ve won
I could go on and on and on
About your works
Because I’m grateful, grateful, so grateful
Just to praise you [dear Source]

Grateful For The Seeming Insignificant

Although I have changed some of the words, the essence remains. My gratitude for all the things in my life is enormous, particularly the small and invisible ones that have such major impact on my course. Synchronicity is another word for them. What are some of these?

  • A parking spot opening up just in time so that I would not be late for an important appointment.
  • A man opening the door just before all the grocery that I scraped my last pennies together to buy crashed to the floor.
  • A trainee pharmacist processing my prescription in error but turns out it was just in time for me to get my medicine under an insurance policy that was about to expire.
  • Someone who I thought would be a long-term partner dumping me and instead of a broken heart, doors opened for a new path to tread.

  2. I think we get so caught up in life that we forget to be thankful for the little things. We started a gratitude journal and let me tell you. We wrote some of the smallest things down, but it really put things into perspective for us. Like…thankful for electricity. We take that for granted.

You will never learn to appreciate the little things in life if you have not been in the lowest level of your life. This post is wonderful.

    1. Ms Claudette

Rock bottom, right Nicole? You most certainly learn appreciation from that seat. Thanks for that. πŸ™‚

I try to be grateful for the little things too. Life is mostly a conglomeration of little every day things, isn’t it? πŸ™‚

Love that word – conglomeration – because that is exactly what it is Rosey! Thanks for that. πŸ™‚

  6. Great post. I am really grateful for all those examples you just gave, and I’m really someone who wouldn’t be pleased easily (okay, not really, anything across my travels makes me smile). I’m sure older people have the knack for appreciation more than us middle agers!

We don’t always see these moments as little blessings, rather we just take advantage of them. I think it’s good to be aware, it makes your day so much better and it helps give you good vibes throughout the day.

      Amen to that Elizabeth! πŸ™‚

  9. I am thankful for literally every little thing. I might not say it out loud, but that doesn’t mean I am not head over heels happy about it!

You are so right Divya. As we “practice” appreciating the small things, the big ones will come. πŸ™‚
