Moderation In All Things

The Last Virtue

moderation“Moderation in all things, especially moderation,” wrote Ralph Waldo Emerson, one of the deepest thinkers of the 19th century and as we close this month of conversation on the seven deadly sins and the counterpart virtues his words seemed most apt.

This week, the Jamaican proverb that concludes the conversation we have had for the past month on the seven deadly sins and counteracting virtues goes like this:

Nyam some, lef some.

The translation and how this proverb relates to the last virtue – Temperance – or moderation and is shared with you in my regular Tuesday Thought video. Have a look:

  1. Moderation and balance is so very important. Too much of anything is probably not wise but this is something we all have to pay attention to. In today’s world of selfies and self praise , we do well to remember that moderation is the key

As always, very clear perspective! 🙂 Thanks for that Mardene!

  2. Well the way yo have handled the 7 deadly sins has been enlighting and insightful to say the least. Class was in session all this while. I must say I prefer Virtues and Temperance is cool…balancing m life has been a lesson indeed I tend to nya some and forget to leave some for tomorrow….I bite off huge chunks and literally need to drag myself away…so developing temperance has been a lesson for me too.

As we work hard to attain our goals, biting things in chunks can be a challenge. That’s why “balance,” is so key! Thanks for your visits Julie and comments. 🙂
