Changing of The Seasons
The seed of migration was planted by my then partner who had never and wanted very badly to experience the changing of the seasons. Having spent seven years of my young adulthood in Kiev, Ukraine I had and it was beautiful. Of winter, spring, summer or fall, the season of the flowers was my favourite. Yet, there was a beauty intrinsic to each season and as an “island girl,” even the bitter cold of the Ukraine held meaning for me. It is much like Yoko Ono wrote:
Spring passes and one remembers one’s innocence.
Summer passes and one remembers one’s exuberance.
Autumn passes and one remembers one’s reverence.
Winter passes and one remembers one’s perseverance.
Strangely, after a couple of winters here in Edmonton, Alberta my partner’s tune changed and the changing seasons was not as anticipated or romantic as before. The perseverance was not there but in all fairness, Fall was a time of true reverence and awe with the kaleidoscope of colours.
For my part, Spring remains my favourite of all the seasons. Yes, the colours of Fall are spectacular and is a constant reminder to me of the greatness of Who or That Which created and continues to evolve with us all. The opportunity to ‘hibernate’ during the cold months, reflect and prepare to launch into the rest of the year is very welcomed. Summer, oh summer – what can I say about you? The picnics, the parks, the festivals – especially here in Edmonton – are some of my favourite things about you.
“Is the spring coming?” he said. “What is it like?”…

Our Contributor based in Pakistan, Neelman Tashfeen, posted recently about Spring in that country and it is actually coming to a close there. Her description of the colours, the fashion, the lives of the women at this time of the year and the weddings inspired our decision to create a mini-Spring Collection. Mardene Carr, our Fashion Contributor, put together some ensembles for us and I chose the ones that I plan to either get or copy as best as possible. Check them out and then hop on over to Mardene’s blog and get your shopping on!
