You Were Meant To…
“Personal power is the ability to stand on your own two feet with a smile on your face in the middle of a universe that contains a million ways to crush you,” wrote J.Z. Colby in the book “Jacob Norby, speaker, author and coach, describes not claiming one’s power in a most eloquent way:
Among the greatest tragedies is a person who believes that they aren’t meant to win–by winning I mean find their purpose, passion and joy in life. They believe that other people have better DNA or happiness genes or something, but that they themselves are missing a critical chromosome. This is a lie and it is begging to be un-believed. For the moment we know the truth about ourselves, we can take both responsibility for our own lives and inspired action to create exactly the life which is our birthright. In other words, you were meant to win. You were created for joy.
For most of my growing up years, quite possibly like you, ‘power’ was something external to me. It was something that others had and to my mind and in my experience it was usually wielded like a weapon over all of our heads. By “our” I mean us children, later that turned into women, those of lesser economic status and for sure people of colour. In my early days, power was something to fight for, to struggle to have returned to the “masses,” and to die for in some situations. While all that waging of wars and battles were and remain real for many, it has not been the case in my life for many years now.
What I have come to learn and in practice, and what the underlying purpose of this blog and all that comes with it when you subscribe, is that true power comes from within. In all our posts, publications and emails shared with you, in my newsletter and particularly through Weekday Wisdom© the only intention is for you to join me in reclaiming your power. For some, the loss of power manifests in their relationships, on the job, in their interactions with certain friends and even with their children. Through missteps, misdeeds and mistakes over almost 40 years of my life, finally I got it that if my personal power is claimed and becomes the foundation of any decision, interaction and words that flow from my mouth or finger tips, I am never weak or without choice.

I Have The Power!
Been noticing many members and readers of the blog responding to posts about change with this line, “I really don’t like change…” You might have heard this quote before but it is worth repeating as the focus of this week’s Weekday Wisdom is “Power.” “The only constant in life is change,” is a most appropriate quote as power is at its core. It is a most often misunderstood word and concept – this thing we call power. However, if you are going to embrace change, you must acknowledge that the only real power in your world is you and of course Who or What you hold sacred as its Source.
To start, affirm:
“There are many ways to live and grow and I am proud of the ones that I have chosen. I will not compromise myself. I am the CEO of my life and path.”
I Am Strong…
You don’t need to roar to know you are strong. In fact, quietly standing in your power, even while shaking in your boots is all the strength you need. Strength is not measured by muscles but by Spirit, yours in face of life’s challenges. Your greatest strength burst forth in times of change and challenge.
To embrace change and plant your feet in your power, affirm in the words of Audre Lorde:
“‘Afraid is a country with no exit visa’, and I do not live there!”
I Am Wise
Do not be ashamed of where you have been – those were steps to where you stand now. As Erica Jong wrote, “Surviving meant being born over and over again,” you are not merely a survivor but a ‘thriver’ in this game of life. Claim your place – scars and all!
This Is The Time!
Did you know that bad times could be the breakthrough moments of your life? Sometimes we need to make changes in our lives but we deny, ignore, refuse to see that things are falling apart, rotting, even dead. If we would reach in and hold onto what is real – our inner being – those times we label bad could be our breakthrough.
Affirm these ‘broken’ moments for what they could be:
The Power Within
“The vision that I have of me is the only one creating my life. I hold the highest vision of myself – it is my power from within.”
