Donkey, Fool And You

And We’re Not Talking Politicsdonkey

Not meaning to get involved or comment on the strange race going on now in the United States, granted it is hard not to wonder how things will end. The members of the party that has a donkey as its symbol might just be kicking themselves, trying to decided between the highly experienced Hillary Clinton and the goodly Bernie Sanders. While on the other side, the elephant in the room of the Republican party is Donald Trump in live and living colour.

By the way, if you ever wondered how these symbols or party animals were chosen and why, check the history here.

No, the donkey to which I am referring this wonderful almost-Spring day is the one of the Jamaican proverb that is the focus on Tuesday Thought©. Regular readers know that every week a proverb is highlighted and it meaning explained within the context of our times. Sorry, I missed posting one last week but doing my best to make up for it today. However, you can check out the one from the week before on the wastefulness of worrying.

Distracted By A Donkey?

“No mek one donkey choke yuh,” is the saying of the day and translated into proper English it is “Do not allow a donkey to choke you.” What does this mean?

This week, we are affirming ways to live our lives without apologies, stepping onto our paths with confidence and removing those things from our psyche that would hold us back. One of the many things that can do that are the dream snatchers we meet along the way. They come in many forms and one such is as a donkey.

  1. My hubby and I were discussing how there doesn’t seem to be any clear leader or candidate we like – almost need to choose the “lesser of the evils” so to speak, and we’re still not sure who that might be!

I had wondered about the donkey/elephant symbols and not really researched it before. Thanks for sharing!

And that makes it a sad day – that there is no clear choice but a settling for. Thanks for sharing that Kleebanks! 🙂

  2. When I was a kid every time I hear or see a donkey it always remind me of Eeyore the slow and funny donkey 🙂 from Winnie the Poo. I once heard about that Proverb but I didn’t understand what it meant till now.

  3. Once I decided to get rid of the donkeys in my life. It was hard at first but at the end, everything turns out good for me.

  4. This is a unique proverb. Donkeys are really very dangerous for progress in life. Need to eliminate them as soon as they try to enter our life.

Yes, Eugenia, it seems like a few people missed the first few words that said that it was not a political commentary. LOL. Glad you liked it. 🙂

I don’t think anyone can be mesmerized by donkeys. I have freed myself from the Donkeys in my life and I couldn’t be happier. It’s so tough to deal with these people. They are toxic and once is enough to be honest, lol.

    1. Ms Claudette

See, that’s where I will disagree with you as I do believe that people can be mesmerized by a donkey – if not their looks, their “bray.” 🙂

  13. Thank you for the insight on the proverb.
