5 Affirmations To Change Your Mind

Mind Over Matter Or Not?

mindWhich comes first – the feeling, the behaviour or the thought? What role, if any, do our words play in our lives? Is your mind the engine of your life or are your actions? These are questions that psychologist, mystics, sages, philosophers and spiritual seekers have been and will continue to ask until the end of time as we know it. It is a conversation many of us have engaged in and even more have not bother to entertain. Wherever you fall on the spectrum of this debate, it is fair to say that there is an undeniable connection between our thoughts, emotions and behaviours. This connection was the focus of our Weekday Wisdom©, shared with our community members this week.

This is a connection that I have studied for a few years and directly worked in the field of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). What is CBT? Using the description from Lisa Tams of the Michigan State University, CBT “is a widely used form of psychotherapy that helps individuals understand the connection between their thoughts and feelings, and how thoughts and feelings influence their behavior. The goal of cognitive behavior therapy is to teach individuals that while they cannot control every aspect of the world around them, they can take control of how they interpret and deal with things in their own environment.” (Read the full article here)

Weekday Wisdom

wisdomWeekday Wisdom© is delivered to your inbox Mondays – Fridays. It is yours to use as best suits your needs. The intention is to help you prepare for the day – to live your best life, one day at a time. This week, my aim was to share this connection between your feelings, thoughts and behaviours in simple terms, using affirmations throughout the week to help you change your mind. Although sent to your inbox first thing every morning, it is reshared here every Friday as the wisdom is timeless and can be used any day of the week.

Ripple Effect

weekday wisdomWe all know that our behaviour has a ripple effect on others but more so on our own lives and the situations we find ourselves in. This week, let us pay attention to the ripples that we are creating and affirm:

“Knowing that my every action causes a reaction in my experience, I am moving through this and every day gently, calmly and conscious of my every deed.”

Thoughts Become…

“We are addicted to our thoughts. We cannot change anything if we cannot change our thinking.” Santosh Kalwar,

weekday wisdomSeveral people have commented recently that they have a great challenge “letting go” of things. They realize that these “issues” that they are hanging onto replay themselves in their minds constantly. Until you are able to release, scrub these tapes, you will forever be trapped on that wheel. They become your habit of thinking.

“Freedom is my right and it begins in my mind. One thought at a time, I am changing my mind and changing my life.

Thursday, January 28:

Every Step I Take…

footstepsA well-known Psalm has one of the most meaningful lines when it comes to checking our thoughts as from them we speak. Taken a step further, “as we speak we behave” or walk in our world. So, today let us sing these words as a reminder to ourselves:

“Create in me a pure heart, … and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

Friday, January 29:

“I am actively training my brain to entertain positive thoughts…”

Hope that you will find this affirmations, pictures and video useful when you use them. Our feelings and thoughts do affect our behaviour and overall experience of life. It is my hope that one or all of these Weekday Wisdom© will help and support you throughout the rest of this weekend. Come Monday, we are entering the second month of 2016 and it would be wonderful to have you as a member of our community, so sign-up today! Along with receiving these affirmations, you will get my monthly newsletter that includes poster. I give much because I have been given “pressed down, shaken up and running over,” by Life.

  2. […] Change is a big topic for me since the beginning of 2016. It was not a deliberate attempt on my part for ‘change’ to be the frequent theme of posts on this blog. Yet, it has become that and I am going with the flow, as the saying goes. Tuesday Thought© is a two to five minutes video that I make and post here, on YouTube as well as on my Facebook page. In these videos, a Jamaican proverb or saying is highlighted and explained. Did you catch “Wheel and Come Again” from last week? You can watch that here.  The background and discussion on it can be read here. […]

  11. Our words frame our lives. That is what I have always believe and will continue to believe until I leave this earth. As I always tell those who seek my advice, only speak the words you want to see take place. DO NOT utter it if you do not want to see it. Speak over your lives and the lives of your loved ones only those things that you would like to see happen. SPEAK LIFE!

  12. I believe We are what we think and yes every step we take brings us close rot our divine purpose of away from it depending on out thoughts. Thats all I know and i like to think I maintain a positive mindset. Its okay to allow emotions to take over sometimes coz they form who we are in the end.
