Repeat That: 5 Things Best Not To

Repeat Performances

Yesterday, for the first in a long time I was really glad it was Friday. Every day of the week, every month, every season and every place that I have lived hold at least one thing special for me – so I am grateful for and would gladly repeat the experience of them.

Despite this positive outlook on life that has become very much a part of my way of being, there are things that I would not like to repeat. Yesterday is one example but, here goes the positive me, it brought me this idea for a post. As mentioned in my Roundup post, Fall arrived bringing me the gift of a cold. My day started out with me doing everything possible to get rid of the wrappings of this gift, thrusting at it with Vick’s vapour rub (although they say you are not to use it during the day), honey/lemon/garlic tea and anything else that I could lay my hands on.

Fall Bug

Of two minds whether to call in sick for a third day in a row, I decided by noon that things were under control enough to go in. This was after also managing other aches and pain that had also come upon me. I thought the day would be okay.

Feeling rotten

Well, it went sideways very quickly and my mood turned foul but my team members, who know that was not my normal way of being, humoured and stayed far away from me. As soon as it was possible to leave I did. Came home and vegged for the rest of the evening on my couch where I passed out for a few hours with Netflix watching me.Β  Around midnight, I hauled my stuffy and aching body to bed and again quickly relapsed into a deep sleep until around 4:00 a.m. when I was rudely awakened.

No Need To Repeat #1

This leads me to the five things that need not repeat themselves once they have left my or your experience. One you have no control over but the others are well within your control and my suggestion to you – do not request repeat performances. What are they?

Period

A couple of years ago, I shared with my girlfriends that menopause was not something that I was looking forward to experiencing. They allayed my fear and concern, mainly about hot flashes and growing a beard. When my “time” came and my period disappeared for the eighth or ninth months, I started doing the happy dance. One of my friends is a medical doctor and a couple of others have grown through this stage of life and they all told me to not dance so soon.

repeat
It’s over and done! No?

They were right as two months later, just on the eve of the twelfth month, which is the official sign that you are a Menopausal Woman, my period returned. Needless to say, I was not amused as I had grown to appreciate not having the monthly “issue.” Well, it lasted a couple of days and went away again for a few months but this time while hopeful, I did not dance. Thank heavens because she came back on Friday and helped to make my day painfully crappy!

All the women that I know who now wear the title of Menopausal Woman do so joyfully. Once the period is over, no woman wants a repeat performance, please and thank you!

The Other Four

With less detail,Β  as they each speak for themselves, the other four no-repeat matters are:

  • A Bad Date – if you go on a date, one that left you wanting in any way, bored, pulling at your short and curlies – why repeat it?
  • A Broken Heart – who needs to get their heart broken twice, especially by the same person? Who asks for a repeat? Once is enough to know that it is not worth being in relationship, maybe even contact, with a known heart-breaker.
  • A One Night Stand – some of you will not publicly admit to this but I full well know that most of us have had this experience, whether knowingly or through what they call a “ghost” experience. This is a no-repeat affair of no mean order. You get the point the first time, mark it off your bucket list and try for someone who wants to repeat the sexual experience with you, hopefully at least three times a week!
  • A Terrible Dining Experience – food, good food is high on my list and one thing that I will not repeat is buying a terrible meal over and over. My daughter will tell you that there is no shame in my game about letting my dissatisfaction be known about the customer service and/or the quality of the meal, particularly at high-priced restaurants.

no repeat
No thank you kindly!

Hopefully, this is the last repeat appearance of my “Auntie” as we call women’s monthly visitor in Jamaica. 1. […] Some moments of the greatest stress in my past had to do with money and the ending of relationships. Real panic would overcome me with the approach of a bill that was most likely going to be unpaid. A looming breakup, as I could usually tell when the end date was coming, or the real event could and did send me into major panic as well. Then there were the “regular” stress moments such as examinations, job interviews and blind dates. Granted the last, blind dates, was something that I rarely did and one of those things I will never, yes, I said never, repeat. […]

  2. Things i wouldn’t dare to repeat as well. I want to save my self from stress.

Don’t we all! πŸ™‚ Thanks for your visit!

  3. Because... I'm cheap

I agree! All of these are things I wouldn’t want to repeat either.

    1. Ms Claudette

I am glad that you agree! πŸ™‚

I know I have years before I have to even think about menopause but Ughhhh…. What I do know of it from the stories I hear… It’s not pleasant

    1. Ms Claudette

Now that I am going through this natural process – it is not as bad as it’s made out to be my so many. I think it depends on your body, your health and your mental attitude. That has been my experience. πŸ™‚

  5. I practice child led weaning, and my period is very sensitive to my breastfeeding. Between my three kids, I have gone years without periods until they wean as toddlers. It’s nice, but I’m not looking forward to some of the other issues of menopause.

    1. Ms Claudette

I was just like you – not looking forward to menopause but now that I am on the brink, I am quite enjoying it. πŸ™‚

  6. Hope you are feeling better. Menopause can be a really rough time for many women. My mom had a really hard time with hers.

    1. Ms Claudette

I am well thank you! πŸ™‚ Menopause it trying for a lot of women – downright difficult for some. Thankfully, so far, it has been an experience that I have not had too, too much of a problem with. Thanks for stopping by! πŸ™‚

  7. LOL…I am really looking forward to some of the benefits of starting Menopause (although not so much the negatives of hot flashes and facial hair)! I know I’ll be eager to jumpstart the happy dance and I’m sure I’ll be completely disappointed to find out it’s not quite over yet !:P

    1. Ms Claudette

That was me – dancing like crazy in the 11th month and then wham! My period came back! This was after dreading menopause for so long! LOL

  8. Elizabeth O.

    1. Ms Claudette

  9. I agree with each of the five you mentioned. I think the worst kind of sickness for me is when I get a stomach bug. I do not like throwing up, and that feeling is just the worst. No repeating necessary!

    1. Ms Claudette

I so agree with you on the upset tummy!!! Let’s keep our fingers crossed that neither of us repeat any of this! Thanks for stopping by! πŸ™‚

  14. Hope you feel better. I startedto this season with a bad cold sore. A scoop of ginger honey combination always helps a lot!

  22. Ugh, I didn’t realize once it stopped for a long time it could still revisit. That’s not happy news!

    1. Ms Claudette

Yup, unless it stops for 12 straight months, it is can (and will come back)! A colleague told me on Friday, as I was doubled over my desk in pain, that hers stopped for a couple years then came back with a vengeance! πŸ™

      1. It pains me to even think about that! I’m not in menopause yet, but I’m looking forward to it (except for these kinds of tricks…) πŸ˜‰

        1. Ms Claudette

LOL! I honestly was not looking forward to it based on all the stories that I heard – but now that I am almost there, piece of cake. πŸ™‚

  23. I completely agree with those things need no repeating. I’m also sick with a terrible cold, and hope it does not repeat either. Hope you are feeling better.

    1. Ms Claudette

Yes, I am and I read that you had one as well. How are you feeling? Hope you had some good alone and rested up well?

  24. I am with you, I am SO not looking forward to menopause either. Apparently the women in my family get it early too!

    1. Ms Claudette

I wasn’t but once the “process” started, I just want it to get here! Been three days of utter pain with the return of my “Auntie.” πŸ™

  25. danavento

I agree, that if you repeat, then you just drag it on. It is better to sweep it up and move on:) positive thoughts help us move forward with a grin:)

    1. Ms Claudette

      πŸ™‚ That’s me grinning! πŸ™‚

  26. Claudette you are a wonderful and strong woman. These types of things just make us stronger in the long run even when at the time it is so very hard. I am pre meno and not loving it AT ALL. Still haveing the
“monthly” too so extra no fun! Hang in there lovely lady. So sorry you have been having some hard times as of late. XOX

    1. Ms Claudette

Thanks my love, thank you very much! πŸ™‚

  27. kimgib3

Enjoyed reading your post Claudette. I agree with you on being glad it was Friday, or the end of the week, yesterday – me, too. My week was not so great – just things breaking around the house, son’s car problems and yesterday I had to deal with removing ink from clothing as someone left 2 pens in their pocket and I didn’t know and washed them – what a mess. Hopefully we will both have better weeks next week. Hope you feel better, too.

    1. Ms Claudette

What did you use for the stains? I am not a great housekeeper so your tips will help me πŸ™‚ The cold is clearing up but still having some pain relatied to my Auntie. πŸ™ You have a beautiful weekend and yes, I join you in claiming an even more awesome week! πŸ™‚

  28. I definitely do not miss “Auntie” at all and by now I am positive she is never coming to visit me again-it has been about 20 years I think! As for colds–try making some homemade chicken soup and at the first sign of that tickle in your throat-take some echinachea!!!!

    1. Ms Claudette

Oh, I will bear that cold remedy in mind next time my Kitten catches one and shares with me. Thanks for the recommendation! πŸ™‚
