Rainy Saturday Special: Breadmaking, Small Business And Tattoos

A Saturday Without Kitten

Saturday
My grandbaby

Saturday mornings into afternoons have become bonding time for my granddaughter and I but, alas, this week that will not be the case. Kitten, as I affectionately call her, will be spending not just today but the entire August Long Weekend, in the arms of her parents. She recently got not one but five teeth and is so enamored with dental hygiene that my guess is she will spending most of her mornings doing that.

While, her lonely but not bored Glamma will be making bread!

Bread-making Hobby

I swear to you all that it is my conviction that this woman can live by bread alone – contrary to the statement from The Bible that “man shall not live by bread alone.” Okay, so I am stretching the meaning a bit but bread plastered in butter is one of my favourite and must have “meals.”

Several years ago, as the price of the product kept rising, I decided to invest in a bread machine and started learning – the easy way – of making my favourite carb product. After trying several recipes, I am still to find one that results in the type of bread that I love the most – warm and buttered – white and really soft! So soft that when you squeeze it in the palm of your hands – it kisses and caresses itself all the way down your throat.

One of My favourite Kitchen aidsOkay, so I am a ‘breadist’! What can I tell you? However, the product seems to have been with us forever. Check out this article on The Guardian about a recent archaeology find in Israel of proof that “the ancients” were doing agriculture 11,000 years ago – long before it was generally accepted that farming began. What is more interesting, at least to me is that,

The site also revealed evidence of rudimentary breadmaking from starch granules found on scorched stones, and that the community may have been largely sedentary, with evidence of consumption of birds throughout the year, including migrating species. (Read more…)

Do send me your recipes – they must be for bread machines – that will give me the soft kind of bread that I so enjoy, and I will love you forever!

August Is Here!

Welcome August!
Welcome August!

So, how has your August began? It is raining cats and dogs here in Edmonton, Alberta, Not what most wanted for the Long Weekend but the farmers must be very happy. Food delivery companies might be enjoying a boom this morning here, along with this very creative business idea that I came across.

Chocolate delivery service by a woman for women – at that special time of the month. Why can they not just say when we are seeing our periods? Anyhow, not to be sidetracked.

“Jacqueline Henley’s new business aptly titled The Monthly Gift delivers coveted goodies like chocolate and even sweat pants and heating pads to women experiencing their menstrual cycles, which can often bring cramping, swelling and other discomforts.”

For those who thought there is nothing new in business or have stalled in starting their own unique business, this is a boost for you. Read more about this idea here and get in touch with your local small business development and support agencies and get started this month!

That’s A Wrap And A Tat!
My Tattoo

That is it for me for today. Putting my bread in the “maker,” then off for some grocery shopping and to get my laptop checked out by the experts.

Another thing on my agenda, one that I invited you to think about and possibly take me up on, is to get a tattoo. Read this interesting article on “The Secret Lives of Tattooed Women” – check it out here – and let me know if you have one, or will be getting one this summer.

If my nerves do not fail me, I hope to be sporting my semi-colon tattoo by the end of August in honour and remembrance of those who are afflicted with mental health issues and to help raise awareness about suicide prevention.

Tell me where I should put it so that it is not a sagging mess when I get to 70 years old! LOL. Leave your suggestions in the comments/reply box below and the one with the most “votes” is where it will go. [tweetthis]Where should Claudette put her semicolon tattoo? Vote now![/tweetthis]

It was a busy rainy day. I used to make bread, too, but I’m more into baking cakes now.

Thank you! My friends dubbed me that as I initially resisted the usual “Nana,” “Granma” and all of that – I am a young looking grandmother and did not want to be stereotyped or typecast LOL. Now, whatever this little sweetheart calls me is just fine. I simply adore her. Hope your day is going well. πŸ™‚

  7. Sounds like you had a great packed full day! I love making homemade bread, I haven’t done it in a long while I should make up a batch!

Glad you were inspired! LOL. At almost C$4.00 a loaf and at C$9.00 a 5lb sack of four, I figured it would be more cost effective to make my own bread! LOL. Now, do send me a few recipes. Thank you!
